]]>Privatizing Fremont Street has come up a lot (especially when million-dollar deals fall through due to some of the idiots down there creating an environment companies cringe at), but it’s sort of a nightmare. I think the biggest sticking point has always been that each building has numerous owners. To privatize the street, they would all need to agree to that, and getting that many people to agree on anything would be an administrative nightmare. Some of these folks have collected rent from casinos for generations, and nobody has figured out how to persuade them to go this route.
]]>First Friday is an ongoing event in the Arts District. For whatever reason, there is always more gang-related chatter (law enforcement monitors their social media, etc.) around First Fridays, and FSE has done bag checks and wanding for some time on First Fridays. So, the process is already in place.
